I wouldn’t normally send an email out like this, but, I did something stupid.
SHORT VERSION:
The RSS feed for the Just Another Fanboy podcast that is set up through Substack has changed.
If you added the podcast to a separate podcast app, such as Apple Podcasts, using the option in one of the emails I sent, you’ll need to do so again in the next email, or come to the Substack site to do so.
If you need more of an explanation, keep reading.
LONG VERSION:
So, yeah . . . in anticipation of the release of my upcoming podcast: The Superman Super Show (April 18), I added a section to my Substack here for that particular show.
But, when I finished, while I could see that the menu options up on top of the site here showed The Superman Super Show, it didn’t show Just Another Fanboy.
In fact, the menu option for Just Another Fanboy was there, but it showed as “Podcast”.
Well, turns out, there was a reason for that.
See, when I set up this Substack I set it up as a podcast, so the Substack, in essence, was the podcast and there was no way for me to change the menu option so that it showed “Just Another Fanboy” instead of “Podcast”.
So I wrote to the Substack Help Desk with my issue, asking how I could change that.
Well, that was two days ago and they’ve yet to get back to me. In fact, the email form you fill out asks if you are using a paid Substack or a free Substack and as I am using a free one, I figured they would put me on the low priority pile.
And so, after two days of waiting, I did something stupid.
I added a new section for Just Another Fanboy. But, that didn’t show all the old episodes I’d already posted. So, I imported those episodes over.
All that did was create duplicates of the episodes which meant I had two posts for each episode.
So then I deleted the original Just Another Fanboy stuff.
How does this affect you?
Okay, I’m going to try to do this without confusing the crap out of everyone. Wish me luck.
Just Another Fanboy has two separate RSS feeds. One of them was set up when first launched the podcast in 2019 (the main RSS feed) and one of them was set up when I created this Substack.
If you are using the second feed to listen to the show on Apple Podcasts or another app, it should say (private feed for ….) after the title.
That’s what it used to say, anyway. Until I did the stupid thing.
Now, if you go to the podcast app you use, it should say STEEVEN SAYS STUFF (private feed for….) without a cover image.
If it doesn’t. If your app still shows Just Another Fanboy and there is no (private feed for…) after the title, then you’re fine. That’s the main Just Another Fanboy feed. That thing isn’t going anywhere.
But, if your app shows STEEVEN SAYS STUFF (private feed for…), then you’ll need to come over to the Substack, find an episode (or click here to make it easier), then choose the Listen in podcast app option to put the RSS feed on your app of choice.
I apologize because even after you do that, it’s still going to say STEEVEN SAYS STUFF (private feed for…)
I’m really not happy with all of this.
The good news in all this is that I can have different sections for each podcast.
So, yay and stuff.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
